March 20th Wednesday Morning News -

We went from 740 to 649 - down a lot from last week and more are leaving as we speak.
Have a safe trip home everyone!

Congratulations and Kudos:
  • Pat and JoAnn Sullivan are one of the King and Queens for the festival in Nuevo Progreso that takes place tomorrow.  Pat and JoAnn do a lot of good down there and certainly deserve the distinction.  Congratulations, Pat and JoAnn!
  • Thanks to all those that participated in the Golden Age Olympics - you are all winners to us!
  • Congratulations to the Walk and Talk participants at the Golden Age Olympics as they won third place and brought in another trophy for our Trophy Case.
  •  Congratulations to Don Draker who won 1st place for Men 70+ in Horseshoes.
  • Congratulations to the Winter Ranch Bowling Team of Judy Good, Steve Good, JD Murray, Leon Green and Bonnie Ford.  They won 2nd place for bowling and only missed 1st place by three pins!
  • Congratulations to Shirley Saulsbury and Lynn Foster who won 1st place in Amateur standing of Bridge Duplicate!
  • Jo Ann Albertson thanked the 1st Responders for their efficiency, professionalism and caring. She also thanked the quilters for the lovely quilt that she received. Cathy reiterated that we are truly blessed in this park!
Important Information:
  • Since people have started to leave, Cathy brought up a few things to remember when we leave the park.
    • Please leave some mailing labels with your home address on them so that the Mail Room can forward your mail.  You can order labels from the Computer Group or from the Business Office.  They will make sure that the Mail Room gets them.  Please allow a few days for this.

    • Also, Cathy reminded those of us that are leaving to make sure that all yard ornaments, chairs and anything that isn't secure be put away before we leave.  With high winds that occur in Texas, anything can start flying and cause damage to property.  We also need to make sure we aren't impeding grass mowing or weed eating just in case we get some rain this summer.
  •  The office has been receiving a lot of calls about low water pressure.  It is not a problem in the park.  North Alamo Water is doing something and the park has no control over the present low water pressure situation.
  • JD has put next year's schedules out on the wall in Friendship Hall.  Please check to see that your activity is listed correctly.  If you see something wrong, let the Activity Office know as soon as possible.
  General News:
  • Mary Benfield announced that next season we will be having more rock and roll bands along with our favorite country bands.  One of the new bands that JD has signed on is The Agency.  They will be doing two of our dances next season.
  • Mary also announced that we will also be offering Social Dance Classes starting in December from 1 to 3 PM.  The cost will be $5 per person for the two-hour session.  Social Dances include the Waltz, Two Step, Cha Cha, Rumba (Country or Latin) , Salsa, Meringue , East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing and so on.  These classes will be taught by a couple, Steve and Gail Larner, who have done competition dancing.  They will not be teaching you to dance in the very rigid styling as on Dancing With The Stars but they will teach you to the basics of each dance so that you can get out and dance and have fun doing it.   The instructors will start out teaching 45 to 50 minutes of one dance and then you'll take a short break.  Then you'll continue with a second dance.  We've decided to start with the Rhumba and the Country Two-Step after a review of the music that is played by the bands we have signed on for next season.  We know you will get the opportunity to do these dances.  This is a new activity for the park and so we will be trying to stay in tune to what the students want and we'll make changes as we go along to keep this a popular activity.  We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity.
 Steve and Gail Larner
  • The two parades for St Patrick's Day were a lot of fun and hopefully we all got to see them.
  • The Pan of Steel group did a wonderful job on Resident Appreciation DayWe do have quite a bit of ice cream left in containers.  If any of you would like them, see the Activities Office.  They are 40 cents a cup.
  •  The non-picture Directories are for Sale for $2 in the Business Office.
  • Please take any non-perishable items that we don't want to return home with to the Small Hall so they can be taken to ARISE and used by those that really need assistance.
  • Next year the Pool Players will be doing a Back To The 60's Party instead of a Margarita Party.
 Event News:

  • The City of Nuevo Progreso has its Winter Texan Appreciation Day tomorrow.  If you have never been there, it is something you should experience at least once.  JD has offered to take a bus over so stop in the Activities Office if you would like to attend and take the bus.
  • Easter Sunday Dinner - The park will provide the ham for the dinner.  Please bring a dish to share for 6 to 8 people.  It will begin at 1 PM.

Calendar Updates:

  • The last Computer Group Help Session is today right after the meeting.
  •  The last DQ Bingo was last Monday.
  • The last Peter Piper Pizza meal is today.

  • The last dance for the season is this Friday is Diego at 7 PM

Volunteers and/or Donations Needed:

  • If anyone visits casinos this summer, please stop in and see if you can pick up some playing cards for the park for next season.  We are running low.  They normally will give out the decks free of charge.  Thanks!

  • We need one more door couple for Friday's dance.
  • We will be taking down the St. Patrick's Day decorations tomorrow at 8 AM.  We would appreciate some helpers to get this done.
  • If you have some non-perishable food items that you can't take with you on your way home, drop them off in the Small Hall.  They will be donated to ARISE for those less fortunate than ourselves.
The 50/50 Drawing raised $88.50 for the Crocheting Group.
