Wednesday, March 7th Morning Meeting News

We went from 904 to 825 residents in the park this week.  79 people have left the park already. Cathy again reminded us that when we leave we need to leave some labels so that our mail can be forwarded.  You would not believe the amount of mail that comes in after we leave and needs to be forwarded.  You can get labels for this if you need them through the Computer Group.  You can contact Charles Kroll or just let the Business Office know that you need them.  There is a small fee for the labels.

CONGRATULATIONS AND KUDOOS to the volunteers who represented Winter Ranch at the Alamo Parade.  They won the trophy for First Place in the Senior Division and also the First Place Trophy for Overall Best!   More pictures to come!

CONGRATULATIONS ALSO to the Winter Ranch Golfers who played a mixed couples tournament today against Trophy Gardens.  Winter Ranchers won for the second year in a row!

The Variety Show was a great hit.  Cathy and Lynn thanked everyone for their participation and especially Penny Vollrath, the Coordinator of the event.  None of us will ever forget the Synchornized Swimmers.  They provided us all with a bunch of laughs!  What fun!  Watch for pictures and movies coming up on the blog!

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED - See JD in the Activities Office:
  • Looking for volunteers that would be interested in working with the sound system and setting it up for events.  There will be a training get together.
  • Also need volunteers to work the video system.  There will be training for that also.
  • Men are needed to set up tables for the upcoming Craft Sale on the 13th of March.
  • 7 veterans are needed for next Wednesday's meeting for the Flag-folding Ceremony.  We need 6 to fold the flags and 1 to read the folding flags paper.

Winter Ranch and Trophy Gardens will have the St. Patrick's Day Doggie Parade on March 16th, Friday, at 10:00 AM at Doggie Run.  Dress those doggies or other pets up in their St. Patrick's Day dudsLynn just gave a word of caution - don't use jello to dye your dog's fur.  They had one that did that and it didn't grown out until August!

SHOW & SHARE - Bring some the crafts that you have made to Show & Share.  It will be held on Sunday, March  11th, from 2 PM until 4 PM. If you haven't made a craft, come take a look at all the different arts and crafts people have enjoyed.

PICTURES - We know some of you have been waiting for your pictures as they said they would be here last week.  The best thing for you to do is to call them directly.  They have heard from the staff at Winter Ranch already.

The results from the Wellness Screening will be available in the Library on March 16th at 1:30 PM.

MASA (Medical Air Services Association) will have a Free chicken dinner or those that listen to their presentation on Monday, March 12th at 4:30 PM in the Friendship Hall Loft.  Masa will review current services and introduce new services that their members have requested.  Basic services include air ambulance, vehicle return and mortal remains return and more.  There will also be door prizes.  Please sign up in Fellowship Hall so they know how many meals they need.

The March Ladies Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, March 15th, at noon.  The meal will include Chicken Portofino, steamed vegetables, and white rice.  There will also be a Fashion Show.  Tickets are available from February 27 to March 12 (weekdays only) in the Small Hall from 10AM to 11 AM

Winter Ranch Resident Appreciation Day will be held on March 24th from 6-8 PM.  Razz Ma Tazz will perform and then we'll have ice cream afterwards.  JD explained that they chose not to have a dinner so that all of the residents can enjoy the celebration and not have to volunteer for that time.

Workshop with Marsha Nelson, PhD in the Winter Ranch Big Hall Loft, Thursday, March 8th from 10 to 11:30 AM.  Dr. Marsha Nelson is a life coach who has presented the Creative Journaling Expressive Arts:  Life after Loss, as well as the Cancer Survivor & Caregiver Workshops at Winter Ranch.  She was a medical presenter at our WR health fair as well as the Bus Tour held at El Rocio.  This is the last scheduled Workshop to be presented at Winter Ranch.  Please make plans to attend.  For further questions, please contact Rita Huether.

Jan Howard said that as we are leaving and find that we have too much to take home, we can drop off non-perishable food items in the Small Hall.  These will be donated through the Good Samaritan project.

Card Shower - Jan also said that Pastor Gordon Johnson is celebrating his birthday on March 18th and they would like to shower him with cards.  You can give them to anyone on the Church Board and they will present them to him.

JD invited people to try bowling on Friday nights.  They meet at the Flamingo Bowl at
3301 N. 23rd in McAllen on Friday at 12:30.  Judy Good would love to fill you in on the details.  You can see or call Judy Good for more information.  She is in Lot 522.

The Computer Club is selling the Annual Directory for the 2011-2012 season for $2.  You can buy them in the Business Office.

The Computer classes are winding down, however, we are still continuing to have the open help sessions in Activity Room #3 after the Wednesday morning meetings (except for the first Wednesday of the month when the Church Board uses the room).

JD requested that the Monday Night Card Players  please put their tables away.  He is okay with the chairs, but  the tables need to be put away.  No one is using them after you are done.

Bird House Drawing was held today.  The winners are:  Randall and Lona Lemasters on Lot 364 and Gene and Nettie Vandemark at Lot 620. Proceeds go to the Media Center.   The bird houses were donated by Paul Kitt in Lot 133.

2 Doorprizes were given away at the meeting today to people in Lots 536 (Ralph & Maggie Olsen) and Lot 714 (Bill & Sue Charbonneau).

Judy Blanc won the $70 for the 50/50.
