November 14th Wednesday Morning Meeting News

We grew from  290 to 342 residents
in the park this week.  Welcome home
Winter Ranch residents!

Important Info From Park Management:

  • Please start parking on your own sites as the park is starting to fill up and someone coming in should not have to wait for anyone to move a vehicle.
  •  It is time for those that have golf carts to start using the designated golf cart parking to make more room for cars as our parking space is limited.
  •  If you are planning on selling your mobile home, you need to list it first in the office.  The sale needs to be approved.  Management needs to be in the loop.
  •  If you are planning on doing any enhancements to your site including:  cement work, installing rock, planting trees or bushes, you need to check with Larry first.  Don't put yourself in the position where you need to remove what you just put in because you did not check!
  •  The Mail Room has been receiving quite a bit of mail that does not have your box number on it.  Take a look at your mail and if you have received something without that box number, make sure to correct that.
  •  The Video Room will be open starting this Friday.  Hours are Monday and Wednesday 10-11 and Friday from 10 to 11:30.
  • Cathy's Closet - The office has several donated items that are available for residents' use.  These include:  wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, nebulizers and 3 new kits which are sealed, an oxygen canister, buterol sulfate (expires in April), heart-hugger harness, ankle brace, blood pressure machine, etc.  Please see Cathy in the office if you are in temporary need of any of these items.
Event News:
  • Thanksgiving Sign-up Sheets:  The sign-up sheets are now posted and you can find them on the "sign-up" board across from the mail room.
  • City of Alamo Prayer Breakfast will be here at Winter Ranch at 7 AM on Tuesday, November 20th.  Pastor Cunningham from the First Baptist Church will be the speaker.  This is an event sponsored by the Chamber and Cathy would love to see more people participate.
  •  Park Garage Sales:  (Note that this is a change since the meeting!)
    •  In park Garage Sale on December 4th from 8 to Noon
    • In-park Garage Sale on January (date pending) from 8 to Noon
    • Garage Sale - Open to the Public on February 15 from 8 to Noon.
  •  Symphonic Band Tickets for December 18th at 7 PM are available in the Office.  Cost of tickets is $5.  The bus will be available for the event.  The concert last night "This Is My Country" was terrific, as usual!
  • You can sign up for tables for the New Year's Party now in the Activities Office.  Admission to the New Year's Party will be $10 each.
  • Barb DeGarmo is doing the Christmas Stockings Drive again this year.  For information see the postings that are in several locations in the office and Friendship Hall.  The items for the stockings are needed by Posada which is ahead of Christmas.  Barb will need the stocking stuffers by December 11th.
  • The Picture Directories are in and if you purchased one last year, you can pick them up in the Activity Office.
Calendar Updates:
  • No exercise class on Tuesday, November 20th, because of the City of Alamo Prayer Breakfast.
  • The next Social will be November 20th in Friendship Hall from 3:30 - 5. Concessions will be open and we've added a new item, "walking tacos".  Diego will be performing.  Phil Brunette did a terrific job last Tuesday and we'll have him back again.
  • The first breakfast will be pancakes and sausages and that is on the 17th.  Please sign up if you are planning on breakfast because it may have to be cancelled due to lack of interest!  We need at least 15 to sign up to start the grill.
  •  A Windows 7 Computer Class will begin on November 19th at 1 PM in Activity Room #3.  The class is 2 hours a class and will last for 10 weeks.  There will be some juggling of training dates because of Ladies' Luncheons and the holidays.  We'll work those out in class.  There is room for for a few more students.  If you are interested, contact Lee or Mary Benfield at Lot 501.
  • The first dance is November 23rd and Jealous Heart is playing.
  • Round Dancing started on Tuesday, November 13th from 10 to Noon and will continue this coming Tuesday.  The cost is $9 per couple.  We will be dancing with Skip and Kay who lead Round Dancing at other Wilder Parks.

Volunteers Needed:
  •  See Lynn in the Activities Office is you would like to be the Chair for Winter Ranch at the Golden Age Olympics.  There are events for everything from tennis to bakeoffs.  Lynn would really like to see our park participate.
  •  Lynn would also like a Chair for the Christmas Eve Party that is held on December 24th in the afternoon.
  •  The Chamber of Commerce is looking for some volunteers to help in the office for a few hours a week.  The volunteers would do things like greeting people, filing, or making copies.  See Cathy in the office if you are interested.
Bus Trips & Tours:
  • JD said there may be 10 seats available on the bus for the Border Patrol Bus Trip tomorrow, November 15th, because Trophy hasn't filled their half of the bus.  If you are interested, see JD to get your name on any available seats.
  • Our Tour Director, Gail Field,  has several Bus Trips listed on her Bulletin Board in Friendship Hall along with her business cards.  Let her know if you are interested in any of them.  Gail promoted her New Orleans Trip.  There are two rooms left and she will have a waiting list.  She and Bruce do the whole thing and it is a custom trip.  This is a six day, five night trip departing on February 18th.  Cost is $650 per person with a $200 deposit.  She also has added three new trips to San Antonio, San Antonio Christmas and Fredricksburg in Hill Country.

The 50/50 for today was $37.50 and was for the Ladies Luncheon Group.
